All Walt Disney World resorts have activities for kids but the Polynesian seems to be popular with families for two reasons. One is the transportation makes it easy to spend less time getting in and out of the parks, and the second reason is because of all the activities that the Polynesian has to offer kids.
I have been to the Polynesian many times as just a couple and with kids. There are many things for kids of all ages to enjoy but I think the Polynesian is the best for very young kids more than maybe teens. With all the activities for smaller kids, the kids club, the new kids play area at the Lava pool and the easy transportation to get backt to the resort for naps, I found that the Polynesian was the best for us out of all the Disney resorts we stayed at with smaller kids.
For those staying concierge you will find that the lounge is very kid friendly. It has a kids table with snacks and smaller chairs over near the TV that plays Disney movies during lounge hours.
I will separate all the activities into two catagories, Free and Pay. You will find that the "free" list is longer than the "pay" list.

On big holidays like the 4th of July and New Years Eve the resort is very restricted to entering the grounds. You need to have a reservation for a room or dining to get on property. 4th of July 2015 walking paths into the resort has security checking people for resort ID to even walk over.
Electrical Water Pageant from the beach at 9:00 p.m. This show was originally created for the opening celebration of the Polynesian in 1971. This is why the first showing every night is at the beach of the Polynesian. There is a special fireworks and Polynesian only showing of the pageant on the 4th of July.
Swimming in the Lagoon?
No there is no swimming in the lagoon. The Polynesian pools are a great place for kids and adults to have fun and the Polyensian has some of the best beaches at Disney World but make sure to stay out of and away from the water. There are warnings of bacteria and Aligators have been spotted in the water and on the beach. It is not a good idea for anyone especially kids to be in the water even a few inches.
This opened as Club Disney June 2014 replacing the Neverland Club as the kids club at the Polynesian Village Resort. On November 26, 2014 the name was changed again to Lilo's Playhouse. Here, children can be supervised by Disney cast members while they play dress up, make crafts and participate in storytelling experiences while their parents have fun on their own elsewhere at the resort. The area itself looks like a child’s fairy tale brought to life, as our Imagineers drew inspiration from classic Disney Little Golden Books, including “Alice In Wonderland,” “Pinocchio” and “Lady and The Tramp.” Make crafts, play games, watch Disney movies and eat dinner at these fun spots for kids.
Dinner is included in the cost of the service, and parents can order kid-friendly fare for their children when they check in. A snack is also served at 10:00 PM.
As of Fall 2015 the pricing went from an hourly rate of $15 per hour, per child to a flat rate of $55
