New at the Polynesian
Well it is not supposed to be known yet but the Polynesian is getting some new surprises on property in April. As we get closer maybe I will tell you but surprises are always fun…right?

So the Polynesian and other resorts experimented with movies on the beach and camp fires over the last few years. They seem to be sporadic and they would get canceled when the weather was not good.

The latest news from the resort recreation is as follows:

6:00pm–7:00pm

Campfire Sing-along

Take the path to the Grand Floridian Resort and join us there for a nightly campfire on the beach. Marshmallows and s’mores are available for purchase. All ages are welcome.

A Grand evening at the movies! 7:00pm

The Grand Floridian Resort is showing your favorite Disney movies under the stars.Bring

your beach towel and take the path from the Polynesian to the grassy area after the Wedding Pavilion.

Also at the Arcade There is now a 30 minute time play card that is given out in some travel packages. Here is how it works.

Guests staying at a Walt Disney World Owned and Operated Resort who booked their stay through Walt Disney World Travel Company will receive one (1) time play card per packet. After the first swipe of a game the 30 minutes starts. It will only activate one game at a time and there is a 60 second time between games before it will work again. The 60 seconds starts when the game you are playing is finished.

Lost or damaged cards cannot be replaced at the resort.

Only video games can be played. Games that dispense tickets, prizes or photos will not work.

There are no substitutions for the card if the guest does not want to use it.

WDW Radio Podcast

WDWRadio-Logo-with-URLbThere is a podcast that will be available soon on www.wdwradio.com where Lou and I talk about how the Polynesian started and how it evolved. Whell here are some of the fun facts that will show you how the ideas for the Polynesian started. Walt and Lilly’s first visit to Hawaii was August 10. They traveled on the LA to SF to Honolulu on the Matson liner “Lurline” from Los Angeles to San Francisco and than on to Honolulu where they arrived on August 16, 1934.  They continued over
to Hilo Hawaii . This trip was the inspiration of Hawaiian Holiday cartoon (1937) after attending a gathering at the Honolulu Princess theater and the audience said they wanted to see Mickey on a surfboard. They returned on the Matson liner “Malolo”

Walt later visited in 1939 with the family. Later visits were in the 30’s and 40’s and a visit to Maui in 1962 and Kauai in 1965.

The Tikiroom and Polynesian were direct results of Walt’s fascination with the islands and now Disney will continue that theme with the resort in Oahu opening in 2001, the Ko Olina Resort & Marina in west Oahu.
