What is going on around the resort?
Hawaii closed?
The Polynesian is going through some of its normal maintenance for the year like painting roofs, some work on the mechanics of the Volcano pool, etc. One of the not so normal things going on is the ridge beam that is part of the Hawaii longhouse is being replaced. When this happens no one is allowed in the longhouse so it will be closed from 11:00 AM on April 15th and reopen on April 16th at 11:00 AM. There will be no lounge service during this time. This means no snacks and evening service on the 15th and no breakfast service on the 16th.
Lounge changes
Some other changes that happened a little while ago and observed by Darrin Demshar was the seating area and TV next to the Tambu Lounge that people would sit at waiting for ‘Ohana has been changed to an ‘Ohana photo backdrop. The TV was replaced with a small TV that is relocated and they removed all the furniture. Not sure if that was a good move since seating was limited in that area but I guess the photos make more money than giving people a nice place to sit and enjoy some sports.
AAA Diamond rating
Back in 2008 the Polynesian received its first 4 Diamond rating from AAA. Six Disney resorts made the 2010 AAA Four Diamond lodgings list – one for the very first time. Disney’s BoardWalk Inn joined five other Walt Disney World Resort hotels: Disney’s Beach Club Resort, a winner for seven years; Disney’s Contemporary Resort, three years; Disney’s Polynesian Resort, three years; Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, 19 years, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, 21 years.

Fun fact
There have been many famous people at the Polynesian Resort since it opened, especially in the early years when it was the prime location for guests to stay (even if the Contemporary was tagged as the Flag ship resort). Well in December of 1974 John Lennon was at the Polynesian Village when he signed the paperwork to break up the Beatles on December 29th.
